Nescafe“Instant coffee can make its way to this village (I bought some from a seller this morning), but the gospel hasn’t yet.” 😥 -Missionary Michelle Hardesty

Those words came to me by way of a text from one of our single young ladies serving as a missionary with our team in Cambodia. She is visiting this village (Kbal Konlong) with one of our Bible college students named Makara, for a couple of days. If I understand correctly Makara was led to Christ by a Filipino missionary in another village about an hour away while she was learning English from him.

Michelle also told me that Makara’s village has over 500 households and 90 percent of them have not only NEVER HEARD THE GOSPEL ONCE, but HAVE NEVER HEARD THE NAME OF JESUS EVEN ONCE!

Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam, Myanmar, China, and countless other countries in the 1040 Window are all in the same boat. Village after village, town after town, no church, no pastor, no missionary, and no Christians to share the Good News of Jesus Christ.

cokecandyWe have been able to get Coke, Coffee, and some of our favorite candies to these countries, we just haven’t been able to get Christ there!

Michelle also texted these words, “I’m reading Kisses from Katie and she said that living in a Third World Country makes her feel like she’s emptying the ocean with an eye dropper. Just one small drop at a time. That’s about how it feels at this point in my life being a missionary in a Third World Country (Cambodia). Even though we have a great team here, there’s just so much more to do, and we are in a small country (15 million people).

eye dropperI have been doing a lot of that (crying) these days … and yet, at the same time, I wouldn’t trade this heartache for anything the world could ever offer. It’s a privilege to serve even if it’s only one little eye dropper …”

O Lord, give us more young ladies and young men like Michelle. Men and women willing to leave the comforts and conveniences of America to make a small dent for Christ and the cause of Christ where the need is so great. Give us some men and women who are willing to leave family, friends, financial security, future ambitions, and everything that is familiar to them, making a small dent for Christ and the cause of Christ where the need is the greatest!

Matthew 9:35-38, And Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every sickness and every disease among the people. 36  But when he saw the multitudes, he was moved with compassion on them, because they fainted, and were scattered abroad, as sheep having no shepherd. 37  Then saith he unto his disciples, The harvest truly is plenteous, but the labourers are few; 38  Pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he will send forth labourers into his harvest.

“In the vast plain to the north I have sometimes seen, in the morning sun, the smoke of a thousand villages where no missionary has ever been.” – Missionary Robert Moffat

  1. Amen. God is calling many single young people to live a life of eternal significance – this means leaving the place of comfort and familiarity and going to places all around the world where the need is so great. Sadly, the world, the flesh, and the devil are calling as well.
